I call this one St. George And The Dragon.

St. George and the Dragon,  ink, watercolor, gouache on canvas paper,  20 x 30 inches

I’d been reading this series of stories, called Lone Wolf and Cub, about a masterless samurai who wanders around Edo-period Japan with his infant son and works as a freelance assassin. The story is good, but the art by Goseki Kojima is astounding. His drawings look like calligraphy and his compositional arrangements are incredible. Here’s the panel I stole adapted for my St. George and the Dragon piece:

I don’t know why I made a drawing of someone walking around holding a dragon’s head. I put it together not long after watching one of the Jurassic Park movies, and drawing dragons is a lot like drawing dinosaurs…

The people look on at George in surprise…

…disbelief…

…and shock…

My wife let me hang this up in the house.  In the dining room.  She loves me.

Cheers.
