I’m not from Atlanta, but I live here, and (because I live here) people who don’t live here ask me, “Creek, what’s Atlanta really like?” I don’t know what Atlanta is really like, but if you’d like to know what it’s like for me, I invite you to sit back and enjoy another episode of “CREEKING MORE IN THE ATL (with your host Nate Creekmore)”!!!

[They’re Not Just Flying Rats]

In the city of Atlanta, I was sitting in traffic.

One is wont to sit in traffic in the city of Atlanta, and, when one is sitting in traffic, one is wont to become surly and impatient and annoyed.  On this particular day, however, I looked out my window and saw something that reached down deep into my chest and plucked a proverbial heart string.

A man and a woman and a small girl were exiting a row of shops, heading toward their parked vehicle.  As they were walking, the small girl began to excitedly tug on the woman’s hand.

She’d noticed a nearby group of pigeons.

Now, for you and me, pigeons are pigeons and pigeons are boring.

But for the small girl, pigeons are magical.

Because they were magical for the small girl, they became magical for the man and for the woman and for me.  For that moment, we all saw them as she saw them; remarkable creatures moved to coo and peck and walk and flap.

And when they lifted themselves from the pavement to fly away, the small girl pointed up at them and began laughing to herself and to us.

She’d seen something beautiful, and we’d seen it through her.  In that moment, we all had the eyes of a small girl.

The moment couldn’t last forever, but I kept a bit of it with me for the rest of the day.

There you have it folks, another exciting episode of “Creeking More In The ATL (with your host Nate Creekmore)”!  Be sure and come back for the next installment wherein we will define the acronym OTP.
